FAQ
A Certified Pediatric Massage Therapist (CPMT) has completed specific specialized training in providing massage for pediatric patients. Through this training Ashley and Maribel learned to provide massage therapy for children with special health care needs as well as those who participate in sport activities.
As A CPMT, Ashley and Maribel use various methods of respectful approach, meeting children at their level and respecting their personal space. They encourage the importance of professional boundaries, safety guidelines, infection control, and patient privacy.
Children are simply a smaller version of adults! There are many developmental considerations to think of. Touch is the first sense to develop in all humans and is essential to the individual’s health and well-being. Often times stress is associated with only adults, but young infants and adolescents are prone to stress too! Stress can affect their physical and mental health on a daily basis. Massage has a positive effect on children’s behavioral response by improving focus and decreasing aggression. Besides being a great aspect cognitively, massages help tremendously with alleviating growing pains and other physical discomforts.
A massage session for your child may differ greatly from what you would generally expect. We make sure your child is as comfortable as possible; they may or may not disrobe, or lay on the massage table at all, and that is perfectly acceptable and up to them! They will have the option to lay or sit, either on the table or on a mat on the floor. Parents must be in the room with their children at all times.
If your child is hesitant in the beginning, massage may be slowly introduced through play, music, or demonstration. Simple terminology will be used throughout the session so your child will understand what is happening at all times.
